Environmental, Health & Safety
Enstructure is committed to the health and safety of all employees, contractors, customers, and communities, while minimizing our carbon footprint. It is our intent to conduct our operations in adherence with sound environmental, health, and safety (“EHS”) practices. We have policies and procedures in place at each of our terminals to drive a continued focus and commitment to these standards. Every employee and contractor working on behalf of Enstructure is trained to and responsible for facilitating Enstructure’s commitment to pursue the goals of zero safety incidents, protecting the environment, and efficiently utilizing resources.
We take a comprehensive approach to oversight of EHS matters by focusing on three key pillars:
Social Responsibility
Sustainability
Sustainability is the way of the future and, at Enstructure, we are committed to evolving our operations to continue to adopt sustainable operations to facilitate a viable future for our communities and our business. We aim to reduce our environmental impact and diversify our terminal services to support renewable energy projects such as offshore wind, onshore wind, renewable fuels, and large scale industrial recycling. Our operating philosophy emphasizes protecting the environment by managing disciplined operations for continual improvement through quality equipment, maintenance, operations, and human resources.
New London Redevelopment
Enstructure’s Gateway New London terminal is collaborating on a $157 million public-private partnership with the State of Connecticut, the Connecticut Port Authority, Ørsted and Eversource to redevelop New London State Pier into a state-of-the-art port facility supporting the offshore wind industry. The project is expected to substantially increase local economic activity, create medium- and long-term job opportunities, and facilitate the use of renewable energy sources in the Northeastern U.S.
Renewable Energy
Enstructure’s CD Terminal is in the process of implementing a long-term agreement for a “solar garden.” Going forward, CD Terminal expects to offset 100% of its fossil fuel electricity consumption with solar energy. Additionally, CD Terminal regularly handles onshore wind components that supply wind farms throughout the Midwestern U.S.
Safety & Reliability
Health & Safety
Enstructure’s commitment to incident free operations begins with the continuous review and improvement of safety practices and engagement with all stakeholders. We strive for zero safety incidents at each of our terminals and provide regular training to achieve a reliable and compliant health and safety environment.
Covid-19 Response
Enstructure’s corporate and terminal management teams responded quickly and decisively to the evolving COVID-19 health crisis, with employee safety at the crux of the response. We implemented strict policies across our operations to enforce COVID-19 prevention measures, including employee distancing and PPE measures, an employee contact tracing system, and daily management check-ins to ensure compliance and mitigate contagion.
Energy Conservation
Energy Efficiency Projects.
Enstructure has implemented, and continues to prioritize new, energy efficiency initiatives that aim to create a more sustainable and efficient operation. For example, Enstructure’s Gateway Terminal and Fullen Dock have executed LED lighting conversions that will reduce electricity consumption by approximately 30%. Additionally, Enstructure routinely evaluates its portfolio of operating equipment to upgrade aged equipment with newer, more efficient models to significantly reduce diesel consumption and emissions.
Scrap Metal Recycling
Enstructure facilitated a long-term operating agreement with one of the largest global metal and electronics recycling companies. Enstructure’s Gateway Terminal handles significant volumes of scrap metal that are ultimately reused in the circular economy as inputs to industrial manufacturing.
Cogeneration
Enstructure’s Fullen Dock is developing an industrial park that is expected to be supplied by on-site power cogeneration with biomass and recycled asphalt shingles as fuel sources.
